Day of Prayer

In the U.S. today, it’s the National Day of Prayer. We don’t talk politics on Reset Higher. There are other places to have those discussions. Instead, we’re here to look Higher! God is above any party lines that have been drawn and sovereign over all. HE alone is the King of kings and the Lord of lords (1 Timothy 6:15-16, Revelation 17:14, 19:16).

So let’s think about this day set aside for prayer (by the way, whatever day you read this can be a day of prayer, not just the first Thursday of May!).

We can all agree that there are lots of things to fix in our world. The majority of them are because of flawed choices. Think about it for a minute with me. We didn’t get to where we are overnight. The results of decisions that have been made are piling up to the point where we are all feeling the pressure of the results of these actions. We need help. God’s help!

What kind of flawed choices?

  • Greed that thinks only of itself and never thinks of those it hurts.
  • Cruelty that thrives on hurting – even killing – others to get what it wants.
  • Corruption that steals and hoards what should be distributed to help others.
  • Carelessness that is inconsiderate, not thinking of anything or anyone else.
  • Contamination of our planet that affects our air, ocean, and food supply.

These flawed and selfish choices are happening around the world, not just here.

You get the picture. We all do. So will our children and grandchildren and future generations if we don’t learn from our mistakes.

So what do we need to fix this serious condition? Healing. Healing that begins in the heart of each person, from the top to the bottom: leadership at the highest level of every country to every state or region, every city, every community. Not just leadership, but every person on our planet.

Then we can make these choices instead:

  • Generosity that gives to those in need so everyone has enough.
  • Kindness that cares about others and sees we are all in this life together.
  • Integrity that stands up to say “this is wrong” then does what’s right.
  • Perspective that thinks of the bigger picture and impact of even small things.
  • Cleaning Up our home on earth by supporting those helping the environment.

It begins with you. It begins with me. Every one of us individually. But this job is far too big without help. The National Day of Prayer to me means stopping what we are doing to ask God for His help with all of our needs – for our world, for our country, and for ourselves. To admit we’ve made mistakes and need His help to make it right again. He’s the only One who can. He’s the Source. He can change hearts around the world and remove what’s bad and replace it with good. He can forgive sin and make someone clean from the inside. He can fix what we’ve broken.

Now it’s time to make your choice about reaching out to God and adding your prayer(s) to the millions and millions that are being said today. Here’s what the Bible says about what happens when we do as believers in 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV):

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

There’s God’s part and our part. Let’s do our part and by doing so, we’ll encourage others to do the same. That’s how we can change the world.

RESET HIGHER: Don’t give up when circumstances seem overwhelming, like witnessing all that is happening in our world. Yes, it’s a lot. There may be a lot going on in your life right now too. But here’s the good news: God is infinitely BIGGER than our problems. Pray and talk to Him. It’s a great day to reset and start again!
