Free

Who doesn’t love the word free?

Buy one, get one free. Free from pain. Free to go. Free at last!

Here’s a free thought for you to think about: everything you have, has been given to you for free. Before you say “whaddaya nuts?” Or, “Wait a minute. I worked my tail off to buy my house…or car…or put myself through college.”

But what came before that?

First, you were given the ability to work.

You are being given your beating heart and the breath in your lungs right now.

You were given a beautiful mind to think and solve problems and dream.

You were given life. Even though you didn’t ask for it, God gave it to you! His free gift to you made everything else possible, including your strength to work and buy any possession you have and the food you eat every day.

Let’s give credit where credit is due. The Apostle Paul said the same thing hundreds of years ago and it’s still true today:

“For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?    I Corinthians 4:7 NIV

There’s another free gift that God offers you that you’ve almost certainly heard of – the gift of salvation and eternal life. This gift is different because this time, it’s up to you to accept it. It can’t be earned. In Ephesians 2:8-9 it says:

“For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”

You have already been given God’s miraculous first gift of life on earth, but maybe you haven’t accepted His second gift of eternal life. If not, this verse that may already be familiar is for you today. John 3:16.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”

RESET HIGHER: How do you accept this gift? Sincerely pray this prayer from your heart that Billy Graham prayed with thousands and thousands of people at his crusades:

“Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour. In Your Name, amen.”

If you prayed this prayer, you have done what John 3:16 said and are a new member of the family of God! Send us a message if you’d like more resources to help you build your faith and we’d be happy to send them to you. Welcome!
