Measureless

When I open my eyes and my mind and think of God, I see clear evidence all around me that He is the Master Designer. From cells under an electron microscope to the stars and galaxies at the farthest edge our space telescopes can show us. I also see His work everywhere on earth. There are hummingbirds and giraffes and blue whales and chihuahuas and metallic green beetles and roses and bananas and people!

But there are other layers even more microscopic and macroscopic. Smaller than cells, there are atoms and nanoparticles. Deep space is even deeper. These are all things we can’t see or experience in person, yet they are real. God is there and everywhere in between and beyond. None of these things happened by random chance. Each of them and ALL of them together have only one logical (yes, I said logical) explanation: God is real and alive. He made and sustains all of His creation.

As a human being living on one of the planets in our galaxy – earth – on a particular continent, in a particular city, in a house sitting on this chair, my mind searches for ways to comprehend this truth. It just isn’t big enough. That’s the point. God is bigger than any form of measurement we have or will ever invent in any direction. He is infinitelymeasureless.

Our brains (also designed by God) are incredible, but to know God requires another dimension. Faith. Not just in what He has created, but in God Himself. We miss the point when we focus only on physical evidence, when beyond this is infinite spiritual reality.

Have I lost anyone so far? Hang onto your hat – there’s more!

The key to faith is trust and trust is a decision. That’s something we human beings have a hard time reconciling because we rely on sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch to perceive the world we live in. In fact, one of the main reasons people say they don’t believe in God is because they can’t see Him.

Here’s what the Bible says about that in John 1:18 (NIV):

“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God, and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.“

Woah! God the Father is a spirit. Jesus was BOTH fully God and fully man, sent to us to reveal God so we can know Him! This is true, as many prophecies and first-person accounts in the Bible tell us.

Here’s where faith comes in. We can’t physically see God, and Jesus has returned to Heaven, so to help us in the 21st century believe, He’s given us all the evidence we need. Not only under the microscope or through a telescope or in nature. There are also new discoveries continually being made in archaeology that confirm what the Bible said happened in history is true and accurate.

Faith + Evidence lead us to God. He designed it that way!

One more thing. The fact that we can even have faith proves that we ourselves are spiritual beings. We have a soul. That’s right! We may be wearing an “earth suit” for now, but our soul will live on for eternity. It’s our choice to believe…or not.

There’s more to learn, for example how the gift of the Holy Spirit we receive when we become a Christian will teach and guide us into even more truth – or the fact that God’s LOVE for us is also measureless… but we’ve made a start today.
