Winter Window Wonders

My friends Dan and Sandy Adler have a frosty art gallery that appears every winter on a bathroom window in their house. A small gap allows just the perfect amount of warm air to escape, creating one-of-a-kind works of art that appear for a short time, then melt. A new one appears and takes its place, always different from the one before!

As a designer, I’m amazed at the intricacy and variety of “brushstrokes” in these paintings of ice. They look like delicate feathers, or branches of a whimsical plant, or little dots like beads in a row. As the light coming in the window changes with the time of day, the background color blends from blue to golden.

The beauty of God’s creation is everywhere. Do you see it? You don’t have to go to an art gallery, just go outside right now and look up at the clouds and the blue sky or the stars at night. The Creator’s gallery is free, designed to show you His magnificent glory.

Some of my favorite verses in the Bible are found in Psalms 19:1-4a (NIV). They begin with this statement: “For the Director of Music. A Psalm of David” which means these majestic words weren’t just spoken, they were a song to be sung.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech; night after night, they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the Earth, their words to the end of the world.”

It’s the living God who is calling to ALL of us through the wonders He has created, from the smallest subatomic particle to the unfathomably vast universe and beyond. Your own body is a miracle! You have a mind to think and understand, eyes to see, and ears to hear – all the evidence you need to know that He is the Giver of your life and eternal soul.

He is even the Artist painting in frost, reminding us that He is here. Especially if you are in the midst of a season of winter, waiting for spring. Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV) reminds us,

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

RESET HIGHER: What beauty can you open your eyes to see in unexpected places today? When you do, give credit to the Artist with a prayer of thanks.

Here’s a link to a song Dan wrote about his window, recorded with his wife Sandy. It features a video gallery of many more of these beautiful photos:
